The Obidimma Okobi Memorial Foundation was created in memory of Obidimma Okobi, who passed away on April 3, 2017. She is a graduate of Miss Porters School, Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut, Southern Connecticut State University, Harvard Graduate School of Education. “Obi,” as she was affectionately called, was the school principal of City Neighbours Hamilton School at the time of her death. Many students, teachers, families, and colleagues throughout the Baltimore district and Connecticut saw her as a source of inspiration and joy. She personified the love of learning, commitment to students, and dedication to the principles of equity and justice that are the hallmark of a great educator.
An avid runner, Obi participated in several half-marathons. She was active in sports, captaining lacrosse in college, and serving as co-captain for the lacrosse and field hockey teams in high school. While teaching, she coached girl’s lacrosse.
Obi served as a mentor, motivational speaker, and outreach coordinator. She was also an active member of many organizations and communities, focusing on arts and culture, children, civil rights and social action, education, health, human rights, poverty alleviation, and social services.
In remembrance of Obi, we founded an organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of children and the community at large. We especially focus on youth education and community outreach.
